Default 04 chevy express 3500 what size alternator?

04 chevy express 3500 what size alternator?

I did the vin decode and am confussed on what size alternator I have.

“Maximum Alternator Capacity (amps)

145, 105 105.0 min 145.0 max”

I’d like to be able to decode the vin decode.

I know the 145amp alts. Have a large case than the 105 alts.

I need to know atl. Size to order correct drive belt. thanks

call your local dealership and give them your VIN.
or
look up the RPO codes on your door jamb
or
go to rockauto.com and look up your vehicle. choose an alternator. They all fit. The more accessories your have, the more juice you need.

my car came w/ a 105amp.during the extreme hot summers always had problems w/ alt. charging and AC running. even the big 3 didn't help much swapped in a used 145amp ad244 alt. and charge wire helped I little but car doesn't like charginh in hot summer.

anyway I know what a ad244 looks like.
I just forsee problems ordering incorrect parts for new van.

There's probably an RPO code for the alternator.

But you never know, you may have to check the alt itself for a part number. I once went through multiple trips to the parts store to replace the belt on a van because someone had deleted an idler pulley and essentially changed the belt configuration to what a Suburban had, and I had to figure it out myself.

Something to keep in mind.
When the vehicle is built and a certain output alternator is specified the wire coming off the alternator to supply power to recharge the battery after starting and provide sufficient amperage to support the original loads is a certain gauge size. When we increase the output demand that gauge wire if it is not heavy enough can get overheated and cause problems. The alternator is intended to supply power for original loads and what was drained from starting . It was not designed to be a dead battery charger and should not be used for that purpose. Installing a higher output alternator should also make sure the wiring can handle that output especially if it is for a long term.

You shouldn't.
You must have had a bad alternator, bad battery, bad connections, extra accessories, a short or a parasitic drain somewhere.
