Default 06 Express van radio

I am wondering if I can upgrade the radio in my 2006 van to a CD with aux port. Can I use a GM 25974801 radio in my 2006? i see that is it is used in 2007 -2011 Silverado. If it will work, will it need to be programmed? If so, how is that done and how much will the programming run?
Thank you for your help.

No. Factory radios are fussy as to what they will work in, and the dealer needs to program it. Add theftlock to the mix, and best option by far is to buy aftermarket.

Yes, what canucklehead said. The dealer won't touch anything that isn't specified by your VIN.

Aftermarket will cost less, and you'll get more features.

And as it turned out, I didn't need to do the cutting Ron (Teammuir1) had to do.

Yeah Stan... you were very lucky in that aspect... so chevy did get it right later down the road...lol
it took me half a day to figure out the best way to resolve my issue... but now if others
search it out I am sure they will find this forum and save themselves some time and not be
to apprehensive of getting in there and getting the job done.
