Default 1995 G30 Brake switch help needed

I’m new here.

Working on a 1995 GMC G30 or G3500 (unclear).

I have the factory service manual and it seems like the photo is inverted. If i assemble it the only way the switch will clip on it is a good 1/2-3/4” offset from the master cylinder. The rod goes in and pushes but it seems to be at an extreme angle. Anyone have photos of this setup?

I also don’t really feel confident in the push rod being on the outside edge of its mounting post like that, the only thing holding it on is a flimsy clip.

Previous owner hacked it up pretty bad just keeping it on the road. Was tracking down an issue with the brake/parking lots staying on and ended up pulling out the brake switch in pieces. Bailing wire used for the ‘retainer’.

That’s interesting. I’m having brake light issues on my 94 g30. I replaced the brake switch but mine is completely reverse from yours. My plug comes in from the bottom. Not sure which way is correct but my brake lights still don’t work even after the new switch.

I eventually figured it out and forgot to update this. Mine had many issues but i eventually tracked down various cuts in the wiring harness where it was tucked up inside the bodywork, plus some bad repairs that were loose and corroded.

Good luck

Thanks for the update. Did you keep the brake switch orientated as pictured?

Also, where did you get the factory service manual? I’ve looked around but can’t seem to find one for this year and model.
