Its cranking but not starting, when i turn the key it sounds like it wants to start. I get a few puffs of exhaust slowly. but wont crank. Battery is good, i can hear fuel pump, ran fine yesterday. Where could i start checking?

Is it cranking or not?

 

Spray some start fluid down it, see if it fires. Check actual fuel pressure at the test port. Too many things can keep it from starting for a simple answer.

 

It was cranking but it wouldn't run. I tried it again when I got home from work and it started and ran later in the day. I had the hold the key forward for a while and let it turn over for a min or so. I'm assuming the engine was flooded or not getting gas. Occasionally when I drive it up a hill in the past I get misfiring. Could that be a bad injector?

 

misfires can have many, many different causes.
Some live diangostic data can help clear that up.

 

What he said, you need to look at the live data. Sometimes things fail that keep it from starting but won't set a code, or if they do set one there's no obvious cause.

 

Do the normal cks and balances. Mine was security issue.

 

One possible reason for this could be dirty fuel injectors. Over the long run, the fuel injector spouts can become obstructed with rust, consumption or trash.

 

That seems like the least likely issue

 

I had a 2001 that did the same thing,on top of the engine on the drivers side (towards the back side)injection tube is a schrader valve,I took the cap off & pushed on the valve stem in it which must of released pressure in the system & it started & has been running ok since.
