Ran across a clean early 90s G20 with very low miles that I know spent all it's life in a garage sometimes not moving for years at a time. But it's a 4.3, regular 110" wheelbase. Are they a dog to drive? The only six I ever drove was a 99 1500 pickup, it went down the road well enough but I never put a load on it.
I couldn't say no to a legit, one owner, 47,000 mile 94 G20 that I know sat in a semi-underground parking garage maybe it's entire life, certainly the last 10 years for sure. Just a basic work van, the only option seems to be front and rear A/C. I had been aware it existed for some time and had been watching for it to turn up for sale.
This van I do know is missing a mirror so I went to the junkyard today to pick one off a 93-95 at the local you pick yard. It's the only one I know of, a G30 cutaway box van. Small one, like the size of U-haul's current GMC vans. I happened to look down and this thing has a 4.3 in it. I was surprised. So it must have some power to it if they expected it to move a truck like this with a load in it.. So rotted, I picked a latch out of the door and it fell down in the door and I was able to pull it out the bottom.
Then I get walking around and there's a new arrival 83 Blazer with a nice pair on it and unmolested, where the G30 were kind of hanging on one bolt with the others gone. So I pulled those instead, they had all the bolts and the body gaskets.
I'd like to get rid of some of the damn things. How it is they sell for more than I want to pay at auctions but I can't even get anyone to come look at one from a Craigslist ad is beyond me.
The verdict is in; after 150 miles it drives comfortably, other than the tires are pretty awful and the brakes need some attention. Come to find out it's only had 350 miles put on it in the last three years. But then I knew it sat not moving at all for several years at a time before that. it's no sports car but it gets out of it's own way reasonably enough, at least empty.
Did these come with Uniroyal Tiger Paws on them?
The fronts are Primewell and the tread is good but they were manufactured in 2007. Yikes. The rear are the Uniroyal and the date code must be on the inside. Probably lucky I haven't had one explode yet..
It even has the owner's manual in the glovebox in nice shape. I would have fallen over if I hadn't already been sitting down. It was a little shaky at first but seems like the more you drive it the better it runs.
