Default Bench swapping in Express vans

Hi all,

I'm sure some of these discussions may have occurred before, but I didn't find much when searching. I have a 2001 Express 1 ton passenger van, so it's a 15 seater. We use it as a family/carpool etc vehicle. It is more seats than we need, but it's always good to have extra seats. My question is, that in those days the middle seats of the benches didn't have shoulder belts. Starting in 03 (I think), some of them did, and starting in 08 (I think), all of them did. I think when the middle shoulder belts were first introduced, it was a contraption that attached onto the top of the bench itself. Now I know that almost everything can be "modded" in theory, with varying amounts of success and safety, but I guess my first question is, would those later benches (or any) with the built in shoulder belt for the middle seat be something that would be a bolt on in my current van? I'm guessing the answer is no. And if no, how complex would it be to modify to make it work?

A perhaps "simpler question," might there be any way to install that shoulder belt mechanism that's built into the bench top of the newer benches, into the older benches? Or any other way to retrofit shoulder belts into an old van?

Thanks all!

I'd suggest finding out if a newer seat will fit your rails. Might be easier or cheaper than modding your seats.

You may be right about that one. Although I kind of doubt that they fit...plus the expense and hassle of getting the benches might not be that easy
