Default Chevy Express Intermittent No Crank

For the past month about once per week, I would turn the key and just hear a click. I would try again and it would start.

Yesterday this happened, but no click just dead. Took me 3-4 reties and it started.

Today it was just dead when I turned the key and no matter how many times I retired, it wouldn't start.

I jumped the starter solenoid and it started right up and so far starts every time I have tried.

I assume the solenoid is starting to go bad and I should replace the starter?

I'm not a mechanic and just figured I would ask before doing it. As I don't know what else it could possibly be.

sounds like the starter solenoid is bad. i would take a voltage tester and probe the small wire on the starter and have someone turn the key to see if its receiving voltage. if it is replace the starter

Could be a bad starter. Check your ground strap, and battery connections. Also, wiggle your gear shift when it wont even try to crank. The start/neutral switch could be acting up.
How is your battery?

Default Battery and starter

Hi

I would check the connections at the battery first if loose it will cause that.
Second check signal from key to remote wire going to starter.

Third.. if no signal then possible ignition switch

Lastly. If signal to starter then starter bad itself

You really need a scan tool to diagnose a no start on a late model express van . I usually ends up being a bad connection between modules . the body control module must allow the starter relay to work and if its off line no start will happen.

Have you checked the Run/Start Relays? I went through that, a friend who swapped the A/C Relays in my ‘15 Express 3500. It started right up, I went and bought two new Relays and installed them in the Run/Start Relays, and put the A/C back.
