I have a 1980 Chevrolet g20, I'm rebuilding the front suspension, putting in new bushings and what not.
I'm having a bit of trouble removing outer nuts holding the crossbar for the lower control arm, here are some pictures
I tried turning the nut but the entire shaft rotates, do I need to put the shaft in a vice and use a large breaker bar? Also are any of these nuts reverse thread, you know, lefty tight, right loose?
It looks like the end is squared off so you can put a wrench on it. Or, better yet, an 8 point socket if you have one.
A big impact gun would take it right off. Worst case you could run them up to a shop and they would probably impact it off for nothing.
The first thing I'd do is clean the exposed threads with a wire brush and some solvent or even WD40. Get all the grime out of them before you break it loose. Getting the nut the rest of the way off will be miserable if you have to grind through all that.
