Cruise control problem

Hello, I have a 2001 Chevy express LT van. I’ve owned it since new so I know the history very well. The cruise control works just fine until I turn the headlights on. It works with the daylight running lights on but when I turn the lights on the cruise control won’t work. I CAN get it to work maybe 2 out of 100 tries. no kidding .

This problem just showed up a few years ago; so it’s a relatively new problem.

Have any of you dealt with this problem before? If so, please advise how to fix it.

Use the gum to stick the gas pedal down.

Or, check the ground. I'm not an expert in cruise control, but it seems like a ground issue to me. Often, if the ground is dirty or corroded, but still making some contact, turning on a high current item (like headlights) the "iffy" ground can fail, giving way to the higher current device.

But if you're going the gum route, don't use sugarless gum. Sugar sticks better.
