A few days ago I got stuck in a mud puddle. The wheels were spinning but no traction. I have a button on my dash that I thought was LSD or positraction and I pushed it but nothing happened. I got out of the mud by rocking back and forth but I never felt good traction.
Here is a picture of the button.

Did I do something wrong? Thanks

Reason: add model
Now that I know that I know that I don't have a limited slip differential, I'm looking at my options for getting one. I gave up on the junkyard idea after a lot of confusion about getting the right one and getting one that is not already destroyed.
I'm now looking at package units like the Eaton TruTrac. I liked that one because it looks like the easiest to install. One of their dealers is Summit Racing so I checked their website and got even more confused. I then called their sales department and asked them which model would fit my 2008 Express 3500. They didn't know. They said that I should call my local Chevy dealer with VIN Number in hand. I looked up my VIN number data but couldn't figure out which rear end I have.
Rather than that, I thought it would be better to ask you guys and gals. So here goes... which rear end do I have? VIN: 1GAHG39K181193374
I had an Eaton TruTrac installed a few months ago along with all the bearings, ring and pinion etc... I considered doing it my self but decided to let someone else handle it as it can be tricky to set up correctly. First time in well over 20 years I gave one of my vehicles to a mechanic for anything but tire and alignment work.
I really like it. It's quiet and works well. I've played with it in the rain in situations where I knew I would spin a tire and it hooks really well. I spent a lot of time researching it vs the clutch pack LSD and I'm glad I went with the TruTrac.
I called these guys and got some very good answers about what would fit. For the most part it just depends on what rearend is in your van. They also have kits with the bearings and shims tailored to your rear end. They can match prices and put together packages with everything you need. https://www.ronsmachiningservice.net/
First thing I would do is figure out who you want to do the install. It's a specialty that most mechanics won't touch. Even a lot of transmission experts won't touch them. Your local tranny experts can probably recommend someone. That person can tell you exactly what rearend you have and what info you need to get the right parts. May as well replace the ring, pinion and wheel bearings at the same time.
I went with a Powertrax grip pro all gear limited slip similar to the Truetrac.https://chevroletforum.com/forum/exp...15/#post505680
Count the diff cover bolts and post a picture of the center section and I'm sure someone could tell you what diff you have.
