Fail emission test and both rattling inside. Want to cut them off but don't know how it may affect the computer, MPG, lambdas etc

Rattling inside means they have plugged up and then broke apart from the built up exhaust pressure.
The Cats work with the upstream o2 sensors to control timing and fuel mixture among other things, so I don't see how you could get sway with removing them. New ones are about 200 a pop I think.

You didn't say what year... but could be up to $700 a piece for new cats. At one point I hollowed one out and CEL was on periodically... there is more that can be done to circumvent that, but its not exactly legal. She ran good with the open exhaust. Since you have an emissions test.. I wouldn't attempt it.

Removing them and installing O2 eliminators will clear the codes and the vehicle will run fine as long as you keep it properly tuned, but you will NEVER pass emissions testing with out the cats in place, the smell of the exhaust alone will be a dead give-away they are not in place....

Why not just replace the cat? You can use any aftermarket one. Check out the Wagner website.
My cat for my 2002 2500 express was 240 bucks plus labour.

Removing the cats will make you FAIL smog/emissions testing.

You can either spend a lot of money on a direct fit replacement or go to a local cat/muffler shop and have them weld up universal ones for cheaper.

UK supliers asking crazy prices for the cats, US shops refuse to send it to UK.
Postage very expensive, so on the end of the story to replace two cats may cost me half of my van.... worth it????No

Wow, you are not kidding. I looked at Rock Auto website and the cat is 285 bucks canadian and the shipping is 650......?!!! That is such bs.

Do you not have any auto wreckers there that you can scrounge off of?
