Fast turn signals when cold but work fine when interior is warm
Hi all. I have a 2004 Chevy Express passenger van. The turn signals have been flashing fast only when it's cold out. Both directions the same. When the vehicle interior temp is warm it works fine. It started doing this last year, but this year its more noticable. im due for inspection. Thoughts?
Ok, I'll check that.
ive been leaning toward the flasher since it is in the interior where the warmth would impact it where as the bulbs are outside the cabin.
this guy is the only one I have found with the same symptoms. However he doesn't verify what the solution was.
He was trying to change the flasher out and his posts stop so I'm thinking that might be it. The mechanic didn't think that would be it. He thinks it is a soldering issue.

Was looking for some direction for testing before I go just replacing stuff only to find it was a grounding issue or a half out bulb.
Any idea of how to test the flasher?

you could got out when it's cold and run a hair dryer directly on the flasher module to see if that works...if it does it pretty much confirms it as the problem. It maybe any one of the connectors inline that (if cold enough and they are a little loose) that the plastic shrinks a bit and you lose contact as the plastic warms you get it back...not really a common thing to see though..
In some ways, I would prefer the older electronics. Just seems simpler than a BCM copying the sound of 50+ year old electro-mechanical technology. The older stuff we could change without asking GM for permission.

I agree. Plus even some of the older ideas were bad..... The combo daytime running light flasher hazard module in our 97 voyager was over 150 bucks.....and 2 of the 3 functions might work..but you have to change the whole thing.
One flasher for hazard, one for turning, and a separate module for DRL.....much easier to fix.

I thought we learned our lesson back in the 70s (yes, I'm that old) when they made AM/FM/Cassette/CB radio, all in one. Putting too much in one box means if one fails, do without whilst it gets repaired. (yes, we used to fix electronics back in the day).
