if its plastic line....you can get plastic to plastic or plastic to metal compression unions designed for this purpose. any jobber should have them.

I would be leery of a compression fitting on a fuel line. IIRC the line fittings install with a press fit that requires some heat to let the tubing stretch over them.

these are compression fitting designed for this purpose and no other. I have used them many times and they work well. the press fit adapters you refer to work but are different. I have the fuel line kit to make them. the unions i am referring to...you need no special tools.
