Initializing new TPMS without key fob
#11
Thanks Tech2, Doug E and canucklehead for your help. Fixed the problem.
When the after market sensors were originally installed they were not programed.
This has to be done with the sensor outside the tire. Since I don't have a key fob the shop then used their ODB reader somehow to initialize the sensors. Should be able to use the matching method in the manual when I switch between summer and winter tires in future.
I feel your pain canucklehed, I'm in the AV business. Total moving target.

Problem solved
Brought my van back to the shop, they peeled the tires off the rims, programed the sensors and used an OBD reader to program the van.
All good now.
Thanks for everyone's input!

Must be an aftermarket thing. I've never dealt with aftermarket tpm sensors. Why would they have to have the sensor out of the tire to register it? the sensor sends a wireless signal when its in the tire to the rcdlr. Oem sensors are installed and then registered in tire as an assembly.

Will it still work if your horn is not functioning
Sorry to bring up an old thread but my van doesn’t have a working factory horn. Already ruled out the horn itself does work. Getting no power to steering column. I really believe it’s the built in relay in the fuse box... but besides the point. What are the chances the (DIC) option won’t work because my horn is non responsive? Because I’ve tried to relearn through the (DIC) option. Let the air out of each tire for 30 seconds one at a time. And no luck...
