Hello, I recently purchased a 2008 Chevy Express 2500 with the V8. When I start it up and start driving the engine gets very LOUD, but it sounds more like a high powered industrial fan than an engine. Is this normal? I had a 2005 1500 with a V6 prior and it sounded nothing like this. Just curious.

 

If it sounds like a fan noise for the first minute or so then yes that's normal. I think its for the emissions. Otherwise it should sound like any other normal v8.

 

Yeah its loudest at start up and noticed if I'm light on the gas pedal its louder, but if i push it a little it goes away, which seems counter intuitive to me haha

And as ambient air gets cooler the loud noise lasts longer at idle before it goes away? Sounds like my 07 4.8L. Normal.
