When was the last time the transmission was serviced? Is the fluid red or black? There are transmission additives that may help depending on how bad the problem is. Just remember they are only temporary fixes and usually the problem will come back.

Best quick fix is get it to a tranny shop while you can.

Default Transmission

Hi, just got the van from a friend. He put the transmission in. Got it from a junk yard a couple years ago. Tran. Fluid looks dark. The transmission is a 4L80E.

Also what other vans or trucks from what years can I get this tranny from if I have to replace it?

I know it's money, but replacing what was an unknown with another unknown may not work out for you. I'd look in to repairing the one you got.
