Default New guy, questions about brakes on 1500 express

Hello all. I poked around a bit before joining but didnt find quite what I was looking for. Just recently bought a 2000 Chevy Express 1500 w/ a Cobra conversion. I love the van, it is exactly what we needed for road trips. The first thing I noticed were the lack luster brakes. What are the options for upgradeing the brakes. I assume the 3500 series have larger heavy duty suspension and brakes, would this be a route to go? What about a big brake conversion for say a 1500 pick up. Are a lot of the pick up suspension and brake parts interchangeable? Thanks for any and all info that you may provide.

why dont you check the brakes first and see if you have any meat on the pads/shoes?

Thanks for the suggestion, but the brakes on the van are new. I don't feel like the brakes are bad, they are simply inadequate for such a large vehicle with so much added weight from the conversion package. Hence the questions regarding upgrading as opposed to questions regarding replacing the brakes.
