I don't blame you - I would be too.

Those original two-image mirrors got really disturbingly weird after I added the slide-on extensions to tow and the mirrors became three-image. <g>

I'll try to remember to post some pics of the west coast mirrors when I get them installed on my 2000 Express.

I've hated my split mirrors from the beginning so your info is invaluable! However, I do have one question; Yesterday I stopped in a parking lot and measured the single pane mirrors on an earlier van parked there. It appears they are just slightly smaller than the total area of my newer (2012) split mirrors. Do you notice the slightly smaller total area and feel that the better single mirror is worth the slight loss? Seems to me like it probably will be - just wanted your thoughts.

If you look at your our newer style mirrors the large piece is flat and gives a smaller picture of what's reflected. The older style uses curved glass which packs a wider angle picture into the slightly smaller size. It may be a little smaller but you'll see a wider and taller image of what's behind you.

In post #11 you can see the curvature in the glass on the older style mirror.

I think that's what I don't like about the newer mirrors. The large piece is flat and not that large so it doesn't show much. I keep the smaller piece pointed down so I can see the rear tire. I sometimes have to park in tight places where I want the tires right on the edge of a customers driveway without getting on their grass or landscaping. I think the older mirror with a fish eye added will be perfect.

All this has me motivated to order the mirrors for it today.

THAT'S why the new mirrors seem so inefficient! I never even thought about the flat vs curved surface!
I'm switching!!
Thanks!

Yeah, I could never put my finger on it until I saw the two pics side by side up above. I just knew there were bad blind spots no matter how I positioned them. I had to go outside and look at mine to make sure what I was seeing in the pics was right. Thanks for posting those pics Chuck.

I just ordered a pair from Rockauto.com for an 07 1500. TYC brand heated and powered for $43 each. Came to $114 with shipping and tax.
TYC is a good aftermarket brand I've used plenty of times for other parts.

WOW! They literally just raised the price in the last few hours since I ordered them earlier today. I went back to look and they're $47 for one and $51 for the other. Exact ones I just ordered from them. They must be following this thread LOL. Still not bad for a good brand like that.

They have some other brands for a little cheaper and some off brands I've never heard of for a good bit less. Under $40 each for the heated powered from the off brands. They have the cheapest prices from what I've seen searching around today.

The non powered are cheaper.

I'm going to have to look at mine now. So... Could you just replace the glass and not the whole assembly?

This one for example doesn't have the "objects in mirror are closer than they appear"

I'm sure you could but that glass costs as much or more than an entire mirror and is probably more of a pain to swap.

It doesn't look like either of those has the heating element so if you have the heated mirrors you'll lose that.

I also wouldn't trust the pictures alone. It looks like a generic computer image of a mirror with a photo of the specific mount added. Whoever put that together probably doesn't know or care. My thought is that if the stock glass is flat then the replacement will be too unless it's clearly written in the description as an upgrade or change. It costs more to make the curved glass so you'd think they would sell it as an upgrade.

I looked at a few on Amazon with the proper backing plate and heating element but they're all flat in the description. They're around $20 to $30.

I could be wrong but my guess is that any of those you get would be flat.

EDIT:
Okay, looks like I may be wrong. I just looked at the second link again and it does say "upper convex" in the box below the pictures so maybe it is. Still seems like a pricey way to go but it could work if you don't have the heated mirror. They also have listings for convex without the backing plate for a lot cheaper with and without the heater.

I have the power split mirrors on my 2016 and have noticed the same thing about the extremely limited view from the flat outside mirror on the passenger side. It's so useless.I just bought the Burco 3315RSG glass replacement. It was on the expensive side - $45 - but I can confirm that it definitely is convex, has the "OBJECTS IN MIRROR ARE CLOSER THAN THEY APPEAR" etched onto it, and is the correct shape and size for the passenger side mirror.

I probably won't get around to installing it until perhaps this weekend. There are probably a dozen youtube videos out there about replacing the mirror assembly, but none about replacing the glass. charm.li manuals have instructions for the glass replacement which seems extremely simple but also seems targeted at the manual mirrors. I hope all that pushing, pressing, and pulling doesn't strip the gears on the power adjust mechanism. I'd also like to remove the old glass without breaking it if possible, but ... what happens, happens I guess.
