Just received and installed my Amazon single pane mirror (took all of five minutes) -LOVE IT!!! I wish I had done this years ago! What a failure of engineering those new style split-mirrors are!
I was looking at replacing my mirror glass with the convex glass I just bought and I noticed the existing mirror is wired for heat... WTF?
Digging a bit more there is something up. The RPO code for power/heated mirrors is DE6 but instead I have the manual mirror RPO code DE2.which is for manual mirrors. I don't have C49 either, which is the RPO for rear window defogger, so the button that would turn the heated mirrors on also doesn't exist. Yet the mirrors are wired for heat.
Maybe the power mirrors were an upgrade done by the upfitter or a previous owner? But what about the heat?
I have two upfitter-installed switches on the dash. One of them is for the interior lights that the upfitter added, but so far I've never been able to figure out what the other one is for. Maybe this is what it does. Or else the heated mirrors are wired but not connected to anything.
Not sure if this helps but I replaced the passenger mirror a while back and got one with the blinker in it and heat. The wiring was all there, I have the heated rear window, but I've never tested if the mirror actually heats up (it doesn't get cold here in SoCal). The blinker in it does work without having to to anything other than plug it in.
I just installed mine the other day. I couldn't agree more with what everyone else is saying. Shame on GM for such a poor design.
Today was the first day I got to drive it for more than just up the street. Huge improvement. I pulled into a turn lane to cross the street which usually gives me a big blind spot and I just looked at the mirror and can see everything. No more blind spots of cars passing me either.
If I hadn't taken these pictures I wouldn't believe the difference. This is at the end of my driveway with the van in the same place give or take. The red and the blue car hadn't moved.
Install was a little more of a pain with the power mirrors because you have to take the door panel off to get to the plug. I reused the factory foam backing since it was way more substantial than what these came with. Pictures are below.

That is good to know actually. I've been wanting to add some puddle lights to the mirrors that would come on with the remote. I can splice into those turn signal wires under the dash so I don't have to run wires through the door harness. I can just pick them up again at the plug.
Finally got around to replacing the mirror glass with the Burco 3315 Convex and man what a difference!
I initially bought the 3315RSG which includes the mounting clip pre-attached, but then after removing the flat mirror I realized it has a heating element. I dug further and found that the defrost fuse and relay are even there as well, in spite of not having the rear defrost grid and having no defrost button to turn it on and off.
Not wanting to lose the option of adding a button in the future, I ordered the Burco 3816 heating element. To install it, I removed the mounting clip, cleaned the adhesive from the back of the mirror, added the heating element, and then reinstalled the mounting plate using 3m 5952 VHB double sided foam adhesive tape. (Had to call Burco to get the specific product name to use.)
The terminals on the heating element (4.8mm) are not the same size as the connectors on the van (2.8mm) so I'm going to have to make an adapter,
I neglected to take a 'before' picture but I'll take an 'after' picture soon. I can say for certain, however, that the mirror is actually usable now.
Thank you for the update. I need to put this on my to-do list and get the parts ordered. I like the bottom convex and have it set so I can see the curb when parallel parking.
