Default On the road in my van, with a squeaky steering wheel.

1991 GMC G1500 Vandana 136xxx miles. 1200 miles from home with my van, a box of basic tools and a squeaky steering column. I don't know if it just started or I just never realized it till I'd driven in the dead silence of night. It's definetly not part of the suspension nor the tires. It sounds like of like rubber meeting rubber and it originates from the wheel itself or the column. Tilt steering is a bit loose if that has anything to do with it and I can't hear it unless there is no background noise. When I turn the wheel left to right it sounds similar to bad mattress springs EE-ee-EE-ee Sounds like maybe something needs to be lubed or tightened?

Have you checked your suspension?

I recently had the tie rods, pitman and idler all replaced, ball joints looked good. I was thinking it was coming from the gear box

Definitely cannot be heard from the outside of the van. Sounds like a squeaky dog toy in comparison.
