Default Thanks Ray

Thanks Ray Yeah, more like a tractor is about right. I love how overbuilt it is. 14bolt rear and Dana 44 front. Heres a dumb question only an non-american would ask: you guys refer to "ton", or half ton" axles? They dont look like they weigh 1000lb ....... the towing rating i have is some

Thanks for the feedback regarding the engine issues. My apologies, i should have been clearer: Mine is a 6.2 Diesel so no carb. Im 90% sure my issue is fuel system related. I had her starting on the button last week and running fine. I then piggybacked a diesel heating system off the fuel line and since then im in trouble on startup. Im guessing the mechanical pump is trying to pull fuel from the diesel heater line rather than the fuel tank. anyway I've ordered 1 way valves to fix that. Hopefully thats that, if not i have a carter electric pump im thinking of putting in either as a manually triggered primer pump for the mech or in tandem with the mech.

I took a look at the rear leafsprings btw. I have 6 either side. From your post it sounds like I should have more......

Doug

there are three capacities of vans/trucks

1500: 1/2 ton
2500: 3/4 ton
3500: 1 ton

they are referring to the payload of the vehicle the axle came from. Not the weight of he axle itself.

Here's a 2004 Express 1500 that sat in a garage most of its life with <26,000 miles that I picked up last week. just replaced the original tires & wheels with a set of 17" 2019 Silverado take offs w/ 255/70/17's and added deflectors and mud flaps for appearance. also detailed under carriage and added the new bump stops ( yellow) as the others were almost gone,

nice wheels. It looks like you have a 1500. Do you know what year and model Silverado the rims are from?

There were new take off's from a 2019 Silverado the tires are 255/70/17" General Grabbers. No rubs and I even have mud flaps on and a bit of room to spare it is a 1500. I believe the rims will fit from the early years up through 2019 for sure with the 6x139.7 (5,5") bolt p
attern. The 2020's may have a slightly larger offset so you would have to test one

@Filip Cizek Wow, that is an amazing paint job! How much does something like that cost?

The paint is all original as the thing sat in an air conditioned garage most of it's life and looks essentially showroom new. I clay barred then waxed but got very little on my clay. For the undercarriage I just rinsed it off good and used a paintbrush and some Corroseal to make things pretty and shiny. there is ZERO body corrosion that I can find, Since these things seem to 1st rust along the rocker panels I am taking it to a those spayed on the inner side with Line-X later this week. Best part was the older guy that owned it only asked $7,200 for it So even with tires, wheels, plastic accessories ect I am still at only around $8,000. Really lucky finding a van this old (16 yrs) with only 25,600 miles on the odometer when I picked it up - 1 owner, perfectly clean CAR FAX. I did have the oil changed as soon as I got it, The oil only had abot 1200 miles since the last oil change but that was in 2015!!

Default Here's my tent!!

She's a 2008 Chevy Express 3500 that's been gutted and made into a glorified tent. We tow our ATVs with it and can get just about anywhere we need to go in the state of Alaska. This van was definitely commercial or government vehicle before we picked it up. It's as bare bones as they come, I'm surprised it had a CD player in it!! I spent a week cutting and placing vinyl from our Cricut to get a better aesthetic than your average white creeper van. Besides that I built a platform for a queen size bed with storage below it then added curtains and some screened vent fans to help get fresh air in while keeping the bugs out. Next will be a 4 battery solar panel system. Although we're not done with it, it has proven to be a great little camper so far!!
