Default Swapping g80 into non g80 diff

Hi folks
i have parts van 2001 gm van with g80.
i have 2007 with open diff .

Question: can I swap ?

Both 1500's? Both 2500's? Have you at least looked at the diff cover to count the number of bolts on both?

They are both 3500 , 10 bolt
2001 is extended with rear drums (huge drums!)

Rearend on this should be a 14 bolt cover semi-floater.

I don't know what the newer vans use, I would think normally it's easier to just swap the entire rearend assembly over, but I think the 2007 has disc brakes all around.

One way to check interchangeability would be to go on Rock Auto and check differential specific parts for interchange across those years. It is possible however the housings are different internally from open to G80.

The 2001 (g80 With drums)
has more bolts on diff ,looks bigger , and had different shaped diff cover .
so looks like I would need Professional mechanic shop to put new unit in Which would cost too much for this Adventure (probably around $1500 )
looks like I’ll just get a bag of salt and shovel for know .
