I think he understands it very well, and he does a pretty good job of explaining it to the general public without being overwhelming.

Presenting complex topics to a non-technical public is an art. One that most people fail at. He's been doing it a long time.

How did he stumble? Scotty says direct injection should be avoided. That should be your main take-away for that.

For someone who's been around that long, he does an amazing job of up with technology. Most people would have given up a long time ago. It's actually amazing how much he keeps learning. He reads auto news daily and knows how everything works, and does two shows a day talking about current auto stuff. Including electric vehicles. He doesn't shy away from anything. You couldn't be more wrong.

You can't control everything. Especially when you buy used. Every engine has quirks.
Sometimes it's not worth it and you just gotta live with it. How far are you willing to go? Tearing apart the engine?
Try some de-sludging additives in your oil and see if it helps.
An injector balance test might point out some tired injectors.
If it doesn't lack power I would just live with it.

 

You can have your opinion and I can have mine, but scotty kilmer is not relevant to the current and upcoming car industry. Go watch some recent videos, he makes no sense and sounds like he has no clue what he is talking about. He does know some things about new cars, I will give you that, but not more than a few. In a lot of his recommendation videos he makes bull crap recommendations like once he said you should buy brake rotors from a chinese company instead of oem... He has some good advice in his older videos, because he was working on older cars. Again, not relevant and he hasnt made a video actually working on a newer car because he has not clue how to.

This is kinda why I didn't want to come to a forum... because people like you are the people who literally know there is a problem but won't actually do anything and just slowly let their engine tear itself apart. For a moderator on a forum about vehicles, you sure dont seem to be very helpful. And if my motor is ticking and I have ruled out every other cause, of course I am gonna tear into my motor. I am still insanely surprised that you said the engine sounds normal... there is a very obvious tick.

 

I literally just watched a scotty kilmer video just to see if he is still doing dumb crap... he took the brake booster vacuum line off and sprayed carb cleaner into the brake booster vacuum line with the engine on. I can guarantee you kia's service procedure is to pull the intake manifold and replace it, or clean it thoroughly, not spray carb cleaner into it with the engine running, creating a vacuum leak. Again, he is giving out bad information.

And then he goes on to say "oh look the engine stalled out, that means we need to start it up again but this time we need to rev it while I put carb cleaner in... again, giving out bad advice that could potentially ruin a vehicle

And? That's an easy way to diagnose vacuum leaks. Why would you replace what's not broken?

I already did name one thing, like when he said if you have both vehicles running after jump starting one of them, the alternators will spin against eachother and blow up your car... thats why we have something called a voltage regulator

Not being dramatic, when I make a purchase I take care of the item I purchased. Especially when it comes to cars.

His video was not about finding a vacuum leak, it was to clean the intake manifold of carbon deposits... I can guarantee you that kia's recommendation is replace or clean the intake manifold, not to spray carb cleaner into the vacuum brake booster line with the car running.

I have been a bmw mechanic and I am interviewing at a few Porsche dealerships right now... I am not the biggest chevy guy and I dont know every little thing about them and thought maybe someone in a *chevy forum* would be able to help... so far all you have given me is some stupid post about how to find sounds that has nothing to do with mechanical engine noises
