Default Transmission Temp / Gauge or Torque app?

Hi guys i being trying to figure what would be the best way to get the trans temp reading unfortunately for my 3500 6.0 van it was not equipped whit that gauge or even the front trans cooler which i just install along whit a deeper trans pan and now would like to see if all that work pays out so i went and buy a obd reader and try to use the Torque app and to my surprise i dont read the trans oil temp i had the van hook to a scanner before and it was able to read the trans oil temp so after digging i found out the i need to install some PIDS files on the app so it work, and well i can find does dang PIDS files for the van i only find for trucks so if some one can tell me where i can get does would be much appreciated other wise i will have to go old style and run a gauge to the cooler trans line which also bring me to another question the gauge should be on the out line or the return line?

You need to add extended GM parameters. It's somewhere in the settings. Read the app documentation.

What are you doing with your van that the tranny temp is such a concern?

The PIDS files are likely the same for the van and the truck, depending on year.

Without more details it's hard to say why you're not getting a reading.

Trans fluid would likely be warmer coming out of the trans than coming back from the cooler, if there's much swing in temperature at all. It may not matter which line a gauge is on.

If the trans is a 4L80E they're pretty robust units that will stand a fair amount of abuse. Unless you're doing very heavy towing all the time, or up steep grades, you probably don't have a lot to worry about. If it's the later six speed then I can understand the concern, my understanding is they can be more troublesome.

Honestly, I wouldn't worry about it. The cooling is sufficient.

They're pretty stout in my opinion. At 200k the 4L60 was still shifting strong on my previous vehicle. And it had a hard life.

Just change the fluid & filter regularly with Dex 6.
Every 60k or so , or if it starts to look dark or smell toasty.
