I hacked together a new cover for my rear climate control intake. Looks like the old one broke off before I got my hands on the van.
The frame is from the packaging of a circular saw blade and the mesh I had on hand from another project. Mesh and frame are held together with construction adhesive and it attaches with four small self tapping screws.
. I already put new bearings on the new diff. Torquing the left hand ring gear bolts might be difficult because I don't have a good vice to hold it. It took 140psi in my thunder gun to break the bolts loose. 9.5" 14-Bolt Diff
Same brand that makes the lunchbox lockers but this is a new full case all gear limited slip like the Truetrac or Torsen. This is the family van so I hope it's mild. I was torn between this, the Truetrac, or a G80 and the price dropped so I went for it. I'll let you know how it goes on pavement but it might take some time to get it on dirt.
Got everything together last night and went for a short drive and made a few sharp turns. It does seem mild. I'll have to ask my wife if she even notices. Went together with the same shim as factory with the same backlash (about.007") and a good pattern.
In other news the Cooper AT3's seem to be wearing faster than I'd like.
Pulled out the diff today. Going to put in a helical gear limited slip. Power TraX Traction GT209533. I already put new bearings on the new diff. Torquing the left hand ring gear bolts might be difficult because I don't have a good vice to hold it. It took 140psi in my thunder gun to break the bolts loose. 9.5" 14-Bolt Diff
Finally got it out on some dirt. Went to Santiago peak in OC. Loose dirt and gravel with sharp rocks at 70 PSI going up rudded hills. Worked fantastic. Only ever lost traction when giving it too much gas. I thought about airing down and I should have two have had a better ride but didn't need to for traction. Every other vehicle up there was 4x4 or AWD.
Good to hear. I've got about 6,000 miles on my new Eaton TrueTrac but haven't had it off road at all. I can definitely give it more gas in the rain without spinning a tire like it used to.
Recent work on the EGR and CCV/PCV systems included installing revised crankcase baffles, upgrading flow-rate–matched ventilation lines, and recalibrating back-pressure management to stabilize crankcase vacuum under varying load. These supporting modifications ensure proper exhaust scavenging, reduce reversion, and maintain consistent crankcase pressure, especially under higher thermal and volumetric stress conditions.
