The state of California had a study done about engine oil. (https://www2.calrecycle.ca.gov/Publi.../Download/1093). It included sophisticated laboratory testing.
Here's one of the conclusions they came up with:

Not exactly today, last week after work Friday night/Saturday morning the starter locked up at the gas station. Fixed with a junk yard swap from a 1500 Saturday afternoon. Sunday found a promising AC compressor (clutch was done for) in a '94. Installed, vacced, and charged Monday after work. Feels like a walk in freezer unit now.

Changed the tranny oil. Thought it was a 4L65-E from the RPO codes, turns out it's an 4L80-E. Or, it at least has a 17 bolt tranny pan. Lucky me, AAP had a filter set in stock.
Guess I need a new dip stick too, since it pops out 3", when I can fish it in that far.

@Kael
or the stick is meant to be used with a deep sump pan

Joy, can't drive due to wrong dipstick. PO had the same length in place, it popping out all the time was why it cracked and I had to replace in the first place.
Penalty of buying used at 300,000 miles I suppose.

Well, it's listed for an 4L65-E, memory wants to say it was listed for a 2005 Express as well.

Spent part of the day cleaning up the tranny pan and tranny gasket surface, please, no leak this time!

In a pinch, a cut up water bottle makes a very effective funnel.
