Why won't they insure a 1990 G20???
hey y'all. i know this is a little out of left field for a car forum but long story short Geico says they'll no longer cover insurance on my g20, after 3 years of having no problems with taking my money. Anyone else having issues with this all the sudden?
About a year and a half ago, out of nowhere, Geico threw the same thing at me saying what i had was a "commercial vehicle" and for them to insure it was about 10x more. just crazy expensive. I eventually won the argument about it NOT being a commercial vehicle since it's a conversion van, and has always been.
With this last go-around i didn't win and now need insurance again. About three years ago i switched from All-State because they also wouldn't insure it because they said the VIN shows it as a commercial cargo van. I tried to explain to them that that's how these vans often come out of the factory but to no positive result. Progressive said the same thing. I've been told in the past that there is something funky about my VIN# - 1ZAG52460300058245
Any illumination, advice, or places that will cover me would be great
Thank you in advance. e

yes. I have to pay more as well because the Express/Savana is classified as "commercial" regardless of how it's used, or if its a cargo model or not. The difference was maybe $40 annually or something

I live in the upper midwest and use American Family insurance. I initially had this issue as well. My agent had me take photos of the conversion van and sent it in to the underwriter. I had approval in about 30 minutes to classify it as a passenger vehicle.

thanks for this; it's good to know some of these egg-heads will listen to reason. I tried again the other day to argue my point but it was useless. I have a friend with a g20 who uses Allstate so i guess that's my next step.

I'm not sure your state but I'm in Ventura California I own a 1990 Chevy g20 van conversion. AAA Is who I have mine insured by and had no problems. He probably just wants it and thought the price would go down. Its a Chevy.... people will try anything.....

It has been a while , but there used to he a class9fication of a commercial vehicle but not regi9stered as such like private use and it did not have commercial plates.
I have some reservations regarding some of the cheaper insurance companies. Might pay to shop around and see if that is still appl9cable.
