Wind deflector for driver door

Has anyone done any experimentation with any sort of wind deflector to channel the wind at highway speeds out slightly so that it does not hit the side of your face/ear?
By using my hand as a diverter, it appears most of it comes off the windshield/hood, is caught on the inside edge of the driver door mirror and is deflected right into my face and ear.
I fabricated a thin, slightly flexible plastic panel (rough/experimental) to fill that void last weekend but have not had a chance to try it yet (I'm a long way from anyplace where I can reach highway speeds).
All I see online are the ones that mount to the top of the window area, made to keep rain from coming in. Perhaps they will divert "upper" wind down to push the wind I'm complaining out as well - I don't know.
Just wondering if anyone else has experience with this - please let me know if so.
I miss pivot-out vent windows cars used to have in front of the door window!
Thanks!
