1.72" intake heads with 600 cfm edelbrock carb?
I have a '73 sb350 with 4 bolt mains and dont have a lot of money right now to build it nice. What would happen with the origanal 1.72" heads with a edelbrock performer intake and 600cfm edelbrock carb.?
the 600 carb won't need adjustment or rejetting with the heads. it'll run a bit stronger than a stock motor, since you're running stock cam. a bigger cam when you do upgrade the heads is a good idea. quite a bit more power going that route.
If you are going to start changing carbs, etc, use this as a starting point:
Engine Displacement x Max RPM ÷ 3456 = Carburetor CFM Requirement at 100% Volumetric Efficiency
If any of that confuses you, (like volumetric efficiency, also known as VE),you can google it, and start learning the basics.
You would be surprised at what you can do with various sizes of carbs...but you will gain more satisfaction by making a decision based on personal knowledge.
Hint: don't try to learn it all at one time...take it in small bites...
Good luck!
