Default 1979 400 SB question

I just got a truck from my brother . It is a 1979 Chevy Silverado K-10 . It has a 400 small block in it . The engine was rebuilt a year and a half ago . The crank broke , so I have bought a new crank and am in the process of installing it . But when I was taking the old crank out , I pushed the number 8 cylinder up out of my way , and water came out the top of the spark plug hole . There has been no water in the bottem end that I can tell ( no milky white or discolored oil ) My question is , Is there any way water could have got on top of that cylinder without damage to the head and/or gasket ????? Any replies greatly appreciated .....

Well , I knew it was probably a stupid question , but it was the head gasket , and upon further review , the spark plug from that cylinder was slammed shut . Therefore it appears the cylinder filled with water and hydro-locked and that is what broke the crank .
