Default 1985 G20 non starter/ ignition switch issues

Hi folks,

New to the group so apologies for my ignorance on this topic.

My dampervan a 1985 G20 hightop chevy has stopped firing up. I assumed it was something to do with the very loose feeling ignition barrel. On close inspection today it seemed that a large brass ring (which I take to be a grounding point ring) coming from the same bundle of wires as the ignition coil, is loose and not attached to anything. Where does this sucker attach?

The van was driving earlier in the day and until I started my exploratory work (I was trying to fix my speedo).

I have attached a picture of the ring of death.

Any help would be grreatly appreciated.

Thanks my dudes.

Sammy
