1988 - 1993 GM engine not running
Hello everyone
I have a little problem. I own a boat with a 5.7L gm engine made between 1988 and 1993. The ignition system is made by Mercury. For some time now the engine has not been running. It would turn over and over for ever but would not fire. I cleaned up the contacts in the distributor but that didnt help so i took it apart again, found nothing, put it back together and then it started firing, it almost started to run. Then we stopped turning it over and then tried it again... to our dissapointment the engine would not budge. We think the bendix might still be engaged, or worse something went wrong internaly. Any sugestions? Please help!
Cheers,
kartracer76

Hi kartracr76,
Welcome to the Chevy Forums. That cart looks like a lot of fun.
It probably wouldn't hurt to have the ignition module tested-(Duraspark II if memory serves?) or just replace it if it's cheap enough.
You probably want to drop the starter to verify the starter bendix hasn't melted down.
With the ignition disconnected, try turning the flywheel or crankshaft pulley by hand, using a socket and breaker bar or large rachet.
