1993 Chevy Chirp Driving Me Insane
Hello, I have a 1993 Chevrolet 1500 4.3 L automatic transmission RWD that is making a chirping sound. I just had the motor rebuilt and two days after I picked it up and had been driving it the chirping started. It only starts when the truck is warmed up and has been driving for a little bit and it does it in park when idling as well. It matches the RPM speed. We have replaced the harmonic balancer, the crankshaft pulley, alternator. The idler pulley and tension pulley were both replaced as apart of the engine rebuild. I ran it without the belt for 10 seconds and it still chirps. We've listened with a stethoscope and it can be heard on the oil pan seal but not nearly as loud at the bottom of the pan. I thought about trying to replace the flywheel and torque converter but I don't know. Spoke with a man at a transmission shop and he's never heard of a torque converter chirping. Saw a video where someone had a PCV valve that chirped, maybe that's it? I'd hate to take it back to the shop that rebuilt my engine because it seems to be running great but this chirp is going to drive me insane because it never did it before. Any ideas or advice on what to do next would be greatly appreciated.
If it wasn't making noise before the rebuild then I would as you said remove the belt. If the noise is still there I may try to disconnect the trans from the engine.
However, if the convertor bolts are tight I really doubt its a trans issue. The problem maybe in the engine. As aways double check the installation...
