1998 K2500 5.7 vortec can’t turn key to start need help
I just got this truck a few days ago off of marketplace, last time I started it was 2 days ago, had 0 issues relating to this. I hop in it to start it and I can’t turn the keys into start/run position, after wiggling the steering wheel/ key in ignition simotaneously both unlocked, I put it in run position and it didn’t do anything except turn on every light and the fuel pump/dashlights. The vortec didn’t even crank. I have 3 seperate keys they all don’t work. I tried the method I previously mentioned again and again and nothing. The rest of the attempts it wouldn’t unlock and let me try to start and the noise when you put the keys in the ignition doesn’t sound unless I have my doors open. After all of that the sound it made even when I had my doors open and my keys in started cutting out every attempt to turn the key so I’m wondering if this is the ignition or security system or something like that I need answers please and Thankyou
Sounds like a failing ignition switch or a security system Passlock issue. Try this: leave the key in the On position for 10+ minutes until the security light stops flashing, then try starting. If it cranks, it’s a Passlock problem. If not, the ignition switch or wiring is likely bad. Check for loose connections or worn-out components. A locksmith or mechanic can diagnose it properly if the issue persists.
