Default 1998 Pontiac Bonneville anti thief deteront modual

i have a 1998 pontiac bonneville . Have replaced starter checked all wires to make sure power coming to them. All were fine. Check abttery cable also same thing click wont start. Finally brought it to a shop and the put on computer andn said anti theft system. Well the are now telliing me that it is a anti thief deteront module Gm .I do not have chip keys have regular keys . Never given chip keys when bought the car 2nd hand . Any way I can avoid buying a 230. pcs ?Not sure I trust this repair place...

I assume it cranks, but won't start. Is there an anti-theft light? Has it run with the no chip keys you have? If it's passlock 2, it should be a chip key. Alot of times to bypass the chip key is to install a resistor that matched the resistor in the chip key to the BCM (body control module)
