afternoon all, i have just picked up a 305 engine and the former owner said it is heavily venting oil mist out, is there any specific things to look out for on these (new to me ) engines? other than checking the bores for ring wear eetc?

Well, compression check will tell you if have excessive blow by. Also, make sure the pcv valve is good.
