350 carb to TBI or TPI
Ok I want to buy this 1976 g20 van with a 350 in it and it is carbed. It has been converted to 4X4 and has a turbo 350 trans I think. Question is would it be better to switch to a TBI or TPI and how much better is one from the other. Can I use the same block and heads if good that are in the van . Just looking to do a Manifold & up switch if that is possible. What do I need to get,or change to make it work, and out of what vehicle and years. I am in calif. so smog is a big deal here. Or just leave it carbed. I do mostly desert but want to go to high mountains also.
Thanks for any help
Thanks for any help
if u want to go TBI u need the heads, the middle intake bolts (the ones for the head) are strait up and down on tbi and angled like the outers on older engines, and if u are going to change the heads, then u may as well just use the whole tbi motor, less work that way, and more than likely cheaper than just scrounging parts, u will also need the computer and wiring too
you can buy an adapter plate that will bolt to your carberated intake manifold to fit it for a tbi.but you would still need all the wiring and computer.Very doable but will take alot of time to run the wireing and such
