I have a 59 Rambler American Super (196 Flat Head)that I want to upgrade to a small block chevy (350). My question is, what transmission and rear will I need. This will be strickly cruise and show on weekends.

Whichever trans you want that fits a Chevy, I'd suggest a Th400 or 700R4. Rear end, a 10bolt from a car. I don't know much bout ramblers, but I'm guessing theres gonna be some fab work involved for the motor/trans/rearend.

 

I cannot help you too much with what you need but I can tell you that I had a rambler american 1964 330 green wesminster for quite a few years. This car was quite something except the engine a overhead valve 196cid running on 4 main bearing on the crankshaff. I blew up the motor and rebuilt it completly in my backyard.Beside the weak engine we enjoyed this car a lot.
