All excellent items to check and a good point on the MPG, thou I would have figured more on the 11 to 9 MPG but its still a good point to consider...
older RV's can be notorious for wiring issues due to vibrations.
don't want to be a buzz kill for your RV purchase just want to make sure you are armed with the info should it become a rolling money pit....

All things considered and it's 21 years old, I'd think about making a lowball offer to help offset the operating expense of this behemoth.

I must assume the interior is in A-1 condition not only because it's sparked your interest,
but also because it does seem a little pricey, considering it's age and mechanical problems.

A word of caution here, many times the problems you can see are just the tip of the iceberg. Case in point, how's the water heater? Have you connected up a hose and tested the plumbing? How's the fresh-water storage tank? Have you run the AC units? Do the levelers still work properly? How's the heater? Do the Oven and all the stove- tops function? The sinks drain? Speaking of drainage, what's the septic tank line look like? Is the tank Full/empty? ETC.

Any up dates??.Even through the mileage is high, truth be told,it's hard to find a even a shell of a motor home that needs a total remodel for that kind of money. With mine,I looked long and hard for it,and it is still setting there needed T.L.C,but I wouldn't sell it because when done,it will be worth more than I paid for it or got into it.You just have to be willing to take the disappointments along the way while you work on it and stick to the project you bought.

Price out a new one.....................very scary.

Yeah that, Terry.

This is just a light in the dark to help get the guy out of the woods. You might just be surprised how many used units are for sale out there, though, if you know where to look. A lot of people have more in the payments than they're worth, unfortunately..

I don't mind working on the old lady's motorcoach while we're camping, sort of a busman's holiday. But i know a lot of folks want the camper ready to go when they take off, especially that air cornditioning.

Alright!! So I bought it yesterday! I haven't done any trouble shooting yet cuz...well...it's 110 out today!!!!
I think I did alright at $2500, we'll see how tough it is to get the idle steady and this thing passing emissions first. i suppose looking into the vacume issue first is paramount. I NOTICED THAT THIS THING HAS A COMPUTER PORT SIMILAR TO THE OBDII THAT MOST 96 AND NEWR CARSHAVE. I wonder if this is the OBDI ??? Maybe a code reader would tell me what's up.
Than I'm looking at the tires, fridge, generator window etc..... I'll post pics as I get them.

The best advice is to take it to a mechanic that works on motor homes and pay him to fix the problem.

My guess is that the idle circuit in the carb is bad or that the intake manifold has a leak.

My first advice would have been not to buy it.

My dad told me a long time ago, not to buy anything that you have to fix or feed!

At that age, you will probably be looking at $1000 to tune it up and do everything that will probably need to be done to make it road worthy.

Heads, valve seals, valves, rings, bearings, spark plug wires, water pump, all the hoses and all the filters and all the fluids and all the gaskets and probably even a couple of U joints later - and you will be ready to go camping - next spring!

lol, i was reading through all the sugetions for edelbrock, and thought its a 90, then u said comp and it clicked for me, do a basic tune up (plugs, wires, cap and rotor and airfileter along with an oil change) if it still runs bad, it may be worth it to replace all the vacum lines, i have seldom seen many 20 year ole vacum lines that look mint, all obd1 computer controlled engines have a vacum line attatched to something on the firewall that senses vacum, if the line is broken it will create an eratic idle, i hope this all helps
