5L40E question
Hi,
I have a 2006 Caddy SRX 3.6 AWD that has the 5L40E transmission. My wife was pulling into the drive and the gas pedal caught in the floor mat. rushing the engine. Not knowing she shifted she thinks from drive to park then killed the ignition. In doing so there was a loud bang. I found the floor mat problem and then started the engine. When restarted it has no reverse and forward just enough to slightly make the car move. Just barely. Not enough forward engagement to lower the idle RPM. I have pulled the transmission and disassembled looking for damage. The 2nd clutch is burned. Pad material pulled off and the piston is out too far because of the extra clearance. All of the other clutches look good. No cracked or broken parts. My question is since the 2nd clutch is not engaged in reverse or 1st gear can the blown piston still cause the system to loose pressure. My thinking is that circuit is turned off. If the car was still rolling when this happened and she went to neutral and the rushing engine spooked her and she put it back in drive it would explain the 2nd clutch getting hammered. She panicked and is not sure of every detail. I'm not understanding how the 2nd clutch can cause this situation. Any help would be appreciated. I don't want to continue the rebuild without understanding the situation.
Thanks,
Cliff
