Default 700r4 help

I need a bit of help. I have a 94 c1500 with a Tbi 5.7l my buddy gave me a 700r4 transmission all I know about it is it came out of a work van he don't remember what model and the number on it tells me it's from 91. For the life of me I can't get this thing adjusted with the stock cable. When I adjust it according to everything I find on the internet it shifts into second gear at around 10 mph and it shifts so softly I thought it wasn't shifting till I noticed the tach drop slightly goes into 3rd around 20mph again really softly. I'm used to installing manual and electronically controlled automatic transmissions. No experience with TV cable. My engine already had the hole in the cable bracket for the TV cable and I put a stud in the hole on the Tbi meant for the cable. I don't know if I need a different cable for my set up or there is some extra brackets I need. Any advice would be a real help at the moment because I need my truck.

Also planning on rebuilding both the trans and engine and switching the engine to carbureted in the next year. The aging electronics are causing me all sorts of headaches. Just trying to get her going for the time being.
