My name is Jared I have a 1987 chevy scottsdale I had to put a defferent engine in when I bought the truck it came out of a 87 silverado. I am having an issue with the truck when I accelerate the engine coughs out and has no power, also the gas gauge goes towards the full mark when this happens. It idles fine and when I get up to speed it runs fine and dandy. when the truck is in park and I flip the throttle vaulve by hand it revs fine with no hessitation or anything. I changed the fuel filter on the frame rail, put on a different throttle body, egr vaulve, distributer and cap, retimed it like 4 times. I have checked the wires going to the tank but have not checked the sending unit as of yet. I am running out of ideas an have had several different sujestions from friends but dont know which to follow.

Clean and check your grounds

 

bad TPS sensor.

 

Always check your grounds and keep them clean. They're a pain in the butt, but its free preventative maintenance and cures many things.

 

Have you checked for codes?
