Default 89 S10 fuel problem

I have an 89 S10 2wd with the 2.5 Fi . 5 speed. The engine died while driving 25 mph. Was able to restart after a couple minutes. It was sluggish and could hardly pull itself. I made it 2 miles then it died. Pulled it home. after 2 hrs I was able to start it and move it 20 feet. sputtering. I replaced the coil as I had something similar and I had a cracked coil. Still stalls. Next I rented a fuel pressure tester. Hooked in line between the fuel filter and injector. No pressure o . I replaced the filter . Still 0 . Added gas thinking I was out of gas. Gauge says 3/4 full. When the key is off the gauge stays at 3/4. Still no pressure but it still kind of idles. How can it run with no fuel pressure? I bought a new fuel pump and am about to take the box off to access the tank. Has anyone had this problem. I know Citations and Pontiac Phoenix had similar engines. Any Ideas? Possibly the fuel regulator diaphragm? It does have good spark. JB89

I haven't had the exact problem as you, but...

I would have focused on the Fuel Filter and or Pump.
You can possibly have a little flow, with pressure so low it won't read.

I bet the Pump is going to resolve your problem.

Guys
I would look for fuel pressure to be around 12 PSI for the TBI system to work well. It will still run on lower, but it may not run as good..,

Default fuel pump

OK update . I installed a new fuel pump and screen / sock. Took a bit to get started . I would imagine since I drained all the lines. Started and went to 2000/2500 RPM. shut it off . Restarted and it finally leveled off at 1000 RPM. Before the recent problem the truck would vary RPM after initial startup. 1000/1500 .RPM up and down . OK now it idled 1000 RPM. I have a fuel pump checking Gauge rental from O'reilly installed between the fuel filter and the TBI injection. 0 pressure ???? but it runs and revs up when stepping on the accelerator. The old sock was not clogged and the tank is clean . The rubber connection between the fuel pump and the delivery tube was a bit distressed but I couldn't tear it apart while trying to remove it. Now the gauge doesn't work or I don't have it hooked up correctly. My next thing to try is the fuel pressure regulator. I did try to relieve fuel pressure in the gauge and there was no fuel in the clear plastic line ??? Any other ideas JB 89
