4wd 6.5l Diesel

It occasionally stalls out after driving for extended period of time. I'm also getting white smoke from the tailpipe and it struggles to get over 40mph.

But, if I pull over and shut it down (while all these problems are occuring) and start it right back up it runs like a dream and gets up to higher speeds no problem but this only lasts for a couple of minutes.

 

Check your fuel! Change your filters and especially check your water separator. White smoke is usually associated with water. Water also compresses more than fuel, causing less fuel to inject, much like air in a brake system.

Water will also rust your injection pump, a very, very expensive repair!

 

replaced the fuel filter, checked the water seperater. could a lift or injector pump cause this problem?
