Default Acts like NO BATTERY for short time

Hi All -

On my 2014 Chevy Silverado 1500 Double Cab with 5.3 V8 I've recently noticed a couple of times where I turned the key in the ignition to start the vehicle, the starter turned for a split second then stopped. Turned the key again and it started, but then a LOCK symbol appeared on the DIC. I was concerned, but things seemed fine except for that. After shutting off the vehicle and then restarting, the lock symbol was gone. This happened twice in the last couple of weeks. Then last night, with no lock symbol on, I shut off the vehicle at a local store. After exiting I used the remote to lock the vehicle, but nothing happened, no horn honk, no flash of lights, nothing. I got in the vehicle and realized there was zero power, no lights, no horn, no nothing, as if there was no battery.

Thinking maybe this was some sort of anti-theft measure I went into the store and did my shopping, hoping it would start when I was done. Sure enough, about 20 minutes later I went out and was able to unlock (I had manually locked the doors before) and start the vehicle with the remote, and everything seemed fine. When I got home I shut it off and got out of the vehicle and was able to lock it with the remote like normal.

This morning I had to go back to the store, and the same thing happened.

I replaced the battery with a heavy duty Interstate last year at about this time, so it should be good, but just in case I checked it a little while ago with my volt meter. The cables were tight, with no corrosion, and the meter showed 12.69 volts. After starting it showed 15.15 volts.

I have an appointment with my dealer for Tuesday for the problem, but my fear is they will charge me $100 and say "no problem found at this time".

Any ideas or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

TIA

If the problem does not present itself at the time the tech goes to check it , the problem could not be duplicated

This is what could cause that problem.
Battery cable connections both, at the battery and where the cables connect to the vehicle. The right thing to do is remove those 4 connections clean them and reinstall them. Some memory will be lost , but will adapt as you drive your vehicle.

If your vehicle stays outside in humid weather conditions , air and humidity can combine with the material at the connections and corrode them.

If the tech that gets assigned to your vehicle wants to do this , it will be up to him/her. Where the cables attach to the battery may not allow one to see the corrosion until the cable is removed. That is the problem, the connections will look good and still not be good.

Thanks for your help. You obviously know a great deal about this, but can you tell me why the vehicle seems to have no battery, but then after a short period of time sitting with nothing happening to it, and in the same weather, the vehicle starts and acts normal. Seems like there is a timer or something that shuts it down completely for a short period of time. Also, forgot to mention in my post that a message came up after it started that said "Action Required - Open and close drivers window". The first time it happened I tried to open the window but the drivers window wouldn't respond, though all the other windows operated normally. This morning when it happened the window did open, and then closed.
