BBC Heads???
I recently brought home a 454 that i picked up from a co-worker and was checking out the heads for my rebuild, I was wandering if anybody can tell me if they are worth keeping. I ran the numbers on line (10114140) and they came up with this: '91&up, 366/427, closed, gen v, 2.06"int. & 1.72"exh. valves... I am just wanting a street/strip motor and i don't have the funds to replace them right now i can do a basic port and polish job myself but not an expert so im not going to do any major reshaping of the ports. So should i hit the junk yard in search of something else or save the cash for other important parts??? Thanks for any help
Im not really looking for alot of high rpm power i would like to keep my powerband between idle and about 5500 but as of right now if i reuse the heads i have, i did some shopping around and i am looking at roughly $800 in parts plus the $700 i spent for the motor that puts my total cost at $1500. I appreciate the advice and i will definately do some head shopping, but i think im going to go ahead and give the old ones a shot, if they dont give me what im looking for i will at least have spent some time studying heads and deciding what set i want.
