Default Can Evap Canister being unhooked cause no-start?

2001 Silverado 5.3 Z71
Intermittent no start. Cranks fine. FUel pump not running. Tried hitting tank etc.... nothing helps. Truck had been rearended (minor) recently just before this started happening. I removed bed to replace fuel pump ad found that the little charcoal canister had come unhooked form the plastic line just above the tank (towards the cab). I plugged it back in and in a few seconds the truck fired right up and runs fine. can this being unplugged cause thos type of behavior and evantually cause the truck to not start at all or was it just coincidence and I still need a fuel pump???
Thanks!!! Kevin
