Chevy 350 Build Help
Ok guys, I'm building a motor and want feedback or a little help to make sure this is what I want to do before I buy all of the parts. So In my car as of now I have a motor that I didn't rebuild the bottom end and it is giving me problems so I just want to rebuild it. I have a 91 350 block (bore is std.), I put vortec R motor heads on it and the crank is stock stroke. I have a limited wallet so the key here is budget. I would Like to do a build for under $1K if possible but $2.5K max. I have only built a few motors for performance so my knowledge here is limited so that is why I want feedback/help. I want to have choppy idle cam so below is the cam I would like to use. My trans is a 700R4 and I have a 2200-2500 stall that's fully welded, bronzed, I have a trans-go shift kit that required drilling the valve body, an extended clutch basket and a corvette servo. I would like the motor to not require anymore to be done to the tranny to hold up. I will list the stuff below I was looking into buying and if you know of a better way to build it for less money or just a better way to build please let me know.

Because I have a whole block in my car I don't need to buy a short block and waste money on another block and crank and everything else. I already put a light cam and other performance parts in but I'm looking to put the cam above in my car or an equivalent style cam. I know how to build a motor I just said I don't know how to build for performance wise as I haven't built for performance enough times to know off hand exactly what everything is going to do for me.

Sorry, your post was a little confusing. It seems like you were clearly going to "rebuild it" and you had a limited budget. Maybe Gary1 can understand what you're talking about.

Speaking from experence if you want performance you have to build the bottom end....so it will stay togather at high rpm A cam and a carburator are the last thing you do .First you need forged pistons you deside what compression ratio then magnaflux the rods and resize them,high performance rod bolts are a must next it must be balanced,then a high performance oil pump. and a windage tray an oversize oil pan will help Lots of horsepower can come from headwork port and polish 3 angle valve job cc combustion chambers after that you can deside on a cam.manifold carb distiibutor and headers if you do all this right you will have a runner. DONT look for cheap parts horsepower does'nt come cheap

The way I understood the post was the whole engine was to be rebuilt, if you are going for performance why not spend the extea bucks and do it right so you don't have to worry about cracking a piston or throwing a rod through the block. I haven't experienced any rattle or noise from forged pistons, true they are setup a little looser than stock but not enough to effect the driveability.just my opinion
