I think of Tires like I do an Insurance Policy.

Should something go wrong, I want to know they've got me covered 100%

check the NHTSB / tire docs and with mechanics that've had years of tires.

the tread style has everything to do with tire life, and this has been known a long time. some tread "scalp" and have "bumps" early even though the wheel blanace is ok and alignment is close, while other tires resist this well

because they know that doesn't mean they'll tell you! they may sell you tires with bad tread telling you "better traction" and while that may be true or not - it's probably not what you want these days

Hey this is pretty helpful as well. I don't know what to say about tire grooving, it's OK but pretty risky... Here you go
