corroding transmission / transfer case
My 2001 silverado 1500 started leaking transmission fluid. My mechanic said the metel the transfer case and transmission are made from have started to corrode around the bolts and there was no way to fix it except replace both for several thousands of dollars. I know this isn't a new truck, but I certainly see lots and lots of much older silverado's on the road. It only has 100K miles and I've had the body work done in the last year so I hate to just scrap a fantastic truck, but it's not worth spending $5,000 for parts. Is this a common problem? Anyone have a less expensive fix idea?
Thank you very much!

the leak is from the transfer case itself, not the t-case to trans adaptor.
if it was mine I would separate the case and reseal it. the old sealant will leak after that many years.
google brny case repair for a video to split and reseal the case. Install a new oil pump retainer while your in there. install a new t-case to trans adaptor gasket. the fluid colour looks horrible.
